Budapest is very brilliant compared with Bratislava. The big hotels beside the Danube river are conspicuous becase of their beauty and status. It is a big tourist city.

  • I went to Budapest from Bratislava by train, May 3.
  • I took a private room at the office of a national travel company IBUSZ in the eastern railway station keleti pályaudvar. It is the first time of my travel that I stayed a private room. I payed 529Ft a day, for 3nights.
  • Taking a tram villamos no.67 from the eastern railway station, I changed to no.69 at the terminal. The tram turned in a residenstial area, I fogot the name of the station that had to get off. The tarif is 8Ft.

  • An IBUSZ's office girl wrote how to go the private room on the paper, and showed it on the city map I had buyed. I fogot the family name I stayed, so It is not clear the carbon copy.
  • In a residential area the streets cross, It is a house of 15th ward Aulich Lajos u.75 I put down my bag in someting like a living room where a selection of literature displayed.

  • The trouble has been that The madam of the guest house could not speak English and French. I found that it was possible to do German. She said someting but was not frendly. It seemed that she wanted to change money to the dollar. Because the illegal money exchanging was an experience for the first time, I was unpleasant and refused.
  • I took a supper at the restaurant near the house. It was not for the tourist and I was satisfied.

  • The bus line no.69 is running to the Mexico street Mexikoi ut. that is the terminal of the metro no.1 line the oldest subway in the European Continent. It used this for the going and returning with the central city. The station Deak square Deák tér is the changing station of three lines.
  • There was many kinds of breads at the bakery near the station Mexico street. It was good to have bought one there in the morning and to have eaten it.
  • When I returned to the guest house, once I rided past a station. And the tram curved to the right, there was a housing complex in the vicinity of in the following stop.

    It was built by Béla?Ⅳ in 1255-69. It has called Mathias church since a 88 m steeple was enlarged in the 15th century the times of Mathias Ⅰ. It became the present figure with the restoration in the World War Ⅱ. It is a Catholic church. The bridge is called Szecheny chain bridge Széchenyi lánchid.

    The palace was reared in the 13rd century, turned three museums at present. The exhibition was interesting to reconsider Socialist Hungary's age.

    Steindl Imure was placed first in the design competition for the Parliament in 1885. The neo-Gothic style Parliament was constructed in 1904. The Diet was opened at this proceeding hall for the first time in 1896. New "Hungarian Republic" was declared from the balcony of this proceeding hall to the people at the Kossuth Lajos square in October 23rd, 1989.

    It was obvious that the monument reared in socialism age. I didn't make sure.

    It began to build to commemorate 1000 of Hungary foundation in 1896 and completed it in 1929. There is an angel statue with 36m height at the center, there are Árpád, the chief of the Magyar tribe and six equesterian statues, chieves of the six tribes at the foot of it and the successive kings and the heroes stand half circularly.

    Lechner Ödön desiged 1890-91 got the 2nd prize of the competetion (none of the 1st prize). The architecture built up in 1893-96. The upholstery was completed in 1897. It is built in the corner of Ferenc boulevard Ferenc Körút and Ulloi street Ülloi útja
    It introduced design of a castle in France, and the traditional design of Magyar and India.
    It is translated into the Application Art Museum, too.

    The handrail of terra cotta with color was made by the Jornai? company. Finding it, the king said with surprise "what is anyting to look like a yellow of an egg".

    Lechner's architecture is interesting, but my perpos in travels was not architecture, I had not seached sufficiently. After more than 9 years, I checked their names and photographs.

    There is the hotel in the foot of the hill of Gellért. The printout of the receipt proved that I payed 40Ft for a cup of tea at 16:18 on May 5th, and 35Ft for the others, but I don't remember to enter.

  • Mátyás Ⅰ Matyas Ⅰ (1443-90, reign 1458-90)
  • Árkay Aladár 1868-1932  His architecture induced the tradition of Hungary. It is said that the Calvinist church is influenced in the Lechner style, Finland and England's national Romanticism.

  • Lechner Ödön 1845-1914    Recently popularity is high in Japan and he is called as well as Gaudi?. It is decorated with the tile of the motif of Magyar, Hindu and Islam. Some other works in Budapest, Post Bank Office Postakarékpénztár and "the geography institute" FöldaniIntézet is famous.

  • Ármin? 1869-1945   an architect of Arts Nouveaux style. He was influenced from Ödön, too.

  • faience    It is the name of the tin glaze colored pottery to the north of Alps. It derives from Italian majolica pottery product center Faenca?.

  • Jornai??   The company supplied Lechner's architecture with the pottery. A work at this atelier is used about the Mathias church, the Parliament, St. Stefan Church in Vienna and so on, too.
